What is this course?
Medical Laboratory Technology is an allied medical course. The job entails running tests that detect disease. They find help in diagnosis of diseases. Their findings help doctors to make decision and the course of treatment for their patients. Almost everyone has at least one medical test, usually a blood test or a drug test. Medical technologists perform these routine lab tests under the supervision of medical personnel. Medical technologists, with their more extensive training, have more authority to make decisions. Owing to rising health complications, professionals are always on demand in this field.
Eligibility - For admission into bachelor's degree a student must have passed 10+2 exam with biology, chemistry and physics. For entrance into most colleges, a student will also have to appear for a competitive entrance exam. The tenure of the course is 3½ years including a six-month internship period as well. The course is affiliated to Ragiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences -- a government university. A working professional can also apply for the course and switch from an existing career path to become a medical laboratory technologist.
