Types of Polytechnic:
Polytechnic in India are divided Into different types such has private polytechnic, government polytechnics and women polytechnic and so on.. Depending upon the convenience one go for a part time course or full time course of diploma/ graduation...The subjects taught in polytechnic institution are vast such as computer engineering, chemical engineering, automobile engineering, fashion designing, mass communication, interior decoration... the courses provided by the polytechnic institution are never ending and goes on and on...
What is better?
Two years of higher secondary education followed by four years of engineering programme or three years of engineering education after three years of study in a polytechnic college.
There are definite advantages in pursuing engineering programmes after polytechnic education, according to heads of polytechnic colleges. Not only do the students get job-ready at minimal expenditure, they also enjoy the comfort of exercising the options to pursue B Tech /B.E. in engineering colleges through lateral entry or take up part-time B.E. programmes offered through technical universities while in jobs.
In fact, the trend of Class X students switching over to polytechnic education with the idea of securing admission in engineering colleges through lateral entry has been catching up in the recent years. At least 25 per cent of students join polytechnics with the idea of studying further in engineering colleges.
# It is recommended to go for higher studies after polytechnic and not opting for jobs.
# Studying B.Tech is the best available option for you.
# For this student has to qualify the LEET (lateral entry entrance test) of the concerned university.
# The course duration will be of 3 years. That means student will start your B.tech from the 2nd year

These courses are recognized by the highest technical board in the State viz., The Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, and approved by the AICTE, New Delhi. The time duration of the courses is three years i.e. 6 semesters.
Twenty percent of the total seats are opened to the deserving students hailing from other states (Out side Karnataka)
Diploma in Engineering
Duration: 3 Years
Eligibility: Pass in SSLC / 10th or equivalent examinations where in the student should have studied Mathematics and Science.
KARNATAKA
Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)
Since more number of Polytechnics and Technical degree colleges are increased, the new department called "Technical Education Department" is come into existence in 1959. Some of the technical skilled educational institutions are started before Independence (since 1943), by name "Occupational Institutes". Then later, these are renamed as "Polytechnics"(multiple technical skills/many technical skills). All these Polytechnics were working under "Public Instruction Department”, since before independence to till 1959.
The state government has increased the intake through lateral entry to engineering undergraduate courses from 10% to 20%
from academic year 2011-12. According to technical department officials, from 2011-12 at least 16,000 students will be allowed to get engineering seats through lateral entry.
These courses are recognized by the highest technical board in the State viz., The Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, and approved by the AICTE, New Delhi. The time duration of the courses is three years i.e. 6 semesters.

2. Original Transfer Certificate + 2 photo copies.
3. Five Years’ Study Certificate + 2 photo copies .in case of Karnataka Students
4. Eligibility Certificate in case of all Non-Karnataka Students
5. Eligibility Certificate only in case of Karnataka students who have passed CBSE or ICSE examinations.
6. Latest photographs - 05 Nos.
They must have obtained the “ELIGIBILITY CERIFICATE” before seeking admission, by applying to the SECRETORY BOARD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION, III floor Directorate of Technical Education Building, Palace Road, Bangalore-560001.
Enclosing following documents. Our institution will assist them in procuring the eligibility certificate.
1. ORIGINAL marks card of qualifying examination (equivalent to the S.S.L.C. examination Karnataka) should be produced.
2. The amount of Rs. 500/- should be remitted in treasury under the head of account 0202,EDUACATION SPORTS ARTS & CULTURE, 02 TECHNICAL EDUCATION INSTITUTE AND OTHER FEES, 01 BOARD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION EXAMINATION FEES.
ELIGIBILITY
- A pass in Class X or its equivalent examination with 35% in each of the subjects with Science and Mathematics.
- The student must have studied English as one of the subjects in Class 10.
- Non-Karnataka students should obtain Eligibility Certificate issued by the Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Karnataka
- Karnataka students who have passed class X in ICSE or CBSE should obtain Eligibility Certificate issued by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka.
