BANGALORE - Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) is planning to introduce fire, water, tear and insect-proof marks cards this year.
The university had approached IT professionals in India as well as in the US to help make the marks cards. "The move will benefit students. We have contacted experts in the field of technology to help us create the marks cards," said JS Patil, vice-chancellor, KSLU. The planned marks sheets will be costlier than the existing cards. "These cards are not cost-effective. Students deserve high- quality marks cards. Hence, we have decided to go for these secure cards. Each of them will cost about Rs38, while the normal paper cards cost just Rs5. According to experts, the life of these cards is more than 250 years," said Patil. Patil added that materials like plastic, silver foil and bamboo were to be used to make the new cards. "The paper used to create these cards will be similar to the silver- and golden-coloured thin paper that you see inside cigarette packets," he said. The KSLU is also planning to introduce several reforms related to the conduct of examinations. The varsity has prepared a unique software for the purpose. The university will upload answer sheets on the official website after the announcement of results. The students can see marks given to each answer by logging onto the site. "To avoid impersonation during the examinations, the university will take a thumb impression of each student on the answer scripts and match the impression with the those collected at the time of admission. We will make sure that the results are out within three days after the completion of the evaluation process. The evaluators will be given code numbers so that they can avoid writing their names on answers sheets. This will help maintain anonymity," said a university source. Before sending answer scripts for evaluation, they will be scanned and dummy registration numbers will be affixed. The system will automatically hide the original register numbers, to make the whole process impersonal. There are 87 law colleges under the university. The results of the first batch will be out before February 3, said university officials. DNA

The Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business(ISB) has been placed 12th in the world B-School rankings published by the Financial Times.
This is the third successive year when ISB, which was set up in 2001, found a place among the top 20 in the group of top 100 B-Schools globally. Previously, the B-School was ranked 15th in 2009 and 20th in 2008. While talking to media over telephone, newly-appointed Dean of ISB Ajit Rangnekar stated that the latest achievement shows the constancy of growth the B-school is showing throughout the world. "Standing 12th internationally certainly gives us immense pleasure. But it happened in the duecourse of the committed work the staff and other members of ISB are showing and we are more than happy to accept it with humility,'' Mr. Rangnekar said. Congratulating the ISB group, ISB Chairman Rajat Gupta said, "We began with the idea of creating a school in India that would rank among the best in the world. I am delighted that the ISB is consolidating its position as a top-ranking global business school.'' Moreover ISB will shortly establish its second campus in Mohali, Punjab. The first academic session at the ISB campus in Mohali is likely to start by 2012. London Business School, UK has been placed on top position, while the MBA schools from USA bagged No. 2, 3 and 4 positions respectively. Copyright: IANS New Delhi, Jan 24 : The Delhi High Court has slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on the University Grants Commission (UGC) for not responding to a notice on a lawsuit challenging the new eligibility conditions for lecturers.
A division bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Veena Birbal imposed the fine, noting the UGC has not filed its counter-affidavit despite an opportunity being granted. "The matter is of an urgent nature and yet the UGC has been negligent in placing the reply on record," the bench said. Granting the last opportunity, the court asked it to file the reply by Feb 17. The court was Thursday hearing a petition filed by advocate K.C.Mittal on behalf of All India Researchers Coordination Committee challenging the 2009 regulation of changing the eligibility conditions for the post of lecturers. According to the new regulation, only those who pass the National Eligibility Test (NET) would be eligible for the post of lecturer. Challenging the new regulation, the petitioners said this was contrary to the 2006 regulation which held any one who acquired an M.Phil or Ph.D degree as eligible for the post of lecturer. Seeking relief for those who completed their M.Phil or PhD in 2009, the petitioner said that they are equally eligible for the post of lecturer.
